This short blog post will try to share a random list of Spectacular suspension bridges in Pakistan. Pakistan is blessed with a variety of geographical locations, mountains, rivers and also spectacular landscapes. These are scattered from Karachi at an altitude of 0 to K2 (8611m) above sea level. Because of this diversity of geographical shaping, various means were allowed to settle down. We can’t forget the Karakorum Highway to link China, Gilgit Baltistan, to Pakistan. The list was further added with the CPEC route till Gwadar and Port Qasim Karachi. The people of rural areas of Karachi, Punjab and Baluchistan got access to sources of water to cross several rivers, canals and also irrigation channels. However, the mountainous region (Chitral and Gilgit Baltistan) has a different history and sources to share. They built Spectacular suspension bridges in Chitral and Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan.

1. Saling Khaplu Suspension Bridge

Saling Suspension Bridge is a vital means of travelling for the Hushe Valley. 8 communities travel via this bridge, and an RCC bridge has now been added next to this. It is over the Shyok River.

2. Daghoni Suspension Bridge

Daghoni Suspension Bridge connects Thalay Valley, Daghoni Tehsil, Kharkooh and Sogha villages. Thalay Valley has significance because it has Thalay La for Trekking, Photography, and day-long excursions. An alternate RCC bridge has been constructed next to it.

3. Keris Valley Suspension Bridge

Keris Valley is the gateway of the district of Ghanche. A pedestrian bridge that drew a lot of talk and attention on social media, named “door to heaven”, is located in Keris Valley. This bridge is so beautiful, easy and safe to cross.

Skardu, Shigar and Kharmang Suspension Bridges

Deosai National Park is a high-altitude alpine plain and National Park located in Baltistan, Gilgit-Baltistan. It is situated at an average elevation of 4,114 metres above sea level and is known as the second-highest plateau in the world. The park has a river named Bara Pani in the middle of the plateau. The river has to cross to reach Sheosar Lake and then down to the Astore District. Now this suspension bridge is not in use, as there is a TCC bridge next to it.

Kwardo Suspension Bridge

40 minutes drive from Skardu, and approximately 20 mins drive from Gamba.

A good family picnic spot, but all eatables must be taken along as no such facility is available.

It is a good place to spend a day along the bank of the Indus River.

Mehdi Abad Kharmang Suspension Bridge

 

A wooden suspension bridge collapsed in the Mehdi Abad Kharmang District during heavy snowfall. The bridge had been recently constructed and inaugurated in the month of July 2016. The collapse of the bridge due to snowfall. Now this is properly refunctioned and in use by the locals.

AAlam Bridge Gilgit

Alam Bridge has been constructed with a combination of iron rods and wood over the River of Gilgit. The Alam Bridge is one of the scariest bridges in the world. The bridge connecting the Baltistan region to Gilgit and also the rest of the country is about 300 metres in length.

This wooden, wire suspension bridge over the Gilgit River was constructed by Chinese and Pakistani engineers in 1978. In view of its dangers, regional authorities are deployed at the bridge to ensure vehicles don’t exceed the speed limit. Additionally, trucks and loaded vehicles weighing more than 20 tons are not allowed to pass, but now this has been replaced by an RCC cum iron hanging bridge, which has more capacity to cross and travel.

This rope bridge is both long and poorly maintained. Many planks are missing, and heavy winds shake the bridge as when you cross this.  As of now, there is only one suspension bridge connecting the Hussaini Village with Zarabad (located across the Hunza River).
