Karakoram Grand Slam Trek – The Ultimate 4-Peak Expedition in Pakistan

Forget the crowded “highway” to K2. The Karakoram Grand Slam Trek is designed for true mountain purists seeking solitude, scale, and raw wilderness.

Unlike standard Baltoro treks that visit a single 8,000-meter base camp, this 24-day expedition takes you deep into the Karakoram sanctuary. You stand at the base of all four giantsK2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I, and Gasherbrum II—in one perfectly planned journey.

Moreover, we explore forgotten side valleys and remote glaciers that 99% of trekkers never see. As a result, this trek delivers unmatched exclusivity and photographic opportunities.

What Is the Karakoram Grand Slam Trek?

The Karakoram Grand Slam is a completionist trekking concept. It transforms the classic Baltoro Glacier route into the most comprehensive high-altitude trek in Pakistan.

The defining highlight is a rare detour into the Upper Baltoro and Abruzzi Glaciers, leading to Shagaring—Gasherbrum Base Camp I & II. This campsite is among the most remote and visually dramatic locations in the Karakoram.

Exclusive Advantage:
Camp in the silent Gasherbrum Sanctuary, a privilege reserved for only a handful of expeditions each year.

24-Day Karakoram Grand Slam Itinerary (Overview)

Phase 1: Trango Towers Detour – The Hidden Approach

We do not simply pass the world’s tallest granite spires. Instead, we walk directly into their shadow.

Day 1–5: Islamabad to Pajju
Day 6: Trango Towers Sanctuary
A guided off-trail hike leads to the base of the Nameless Tower. Lunch is taken beside a glacial lake, surrounded by the largest rock walls on Earth.
Day 7–9: Pajju to Goro II

Phase 2: Gasherbrum Extension – The Forgotten Giants

At Concordia, most trekkers turn left toward K2.
We turn right—into the wild heart of the Karakoram.

Day 10: Goro II to Concordia
Day 11: Concordia to Shagaring (Gasherbrum Base Camp I & II)
We leave the main Baltoro route and trek southeast into the Upper Baltoro Glacier. The terrain becomes wilder and more crevassed, requiring expert guiding.

Camp at Shagaring (5,100m):
You are completely alone. Gasherbrum I and II rise directly ahead, while Chogolisa and the Golden Throne dominate the horizon. The silence here is absolute.

Day 12: Abruzzi Glacier Exploration
In the morning, we approach the icefall below Gasherbrum I and II, touching the base of two 8,000-meter peaks before lunch.
In the afternoon, we return to Concordia.

Phase 3: K2 Sanctuary – The Classic Route

With the southern giants completed, we now head north to the King of the Karakoram.

Day 13: Concordia to Broad Peak Base Camp
Day 14: K2 Base Camp
A classic day hike to K2 Base Camp and the Gilkey Memorial, followed by a return to Broad Peak BC for quieter camping and dramatic sunset views of K2.

Phase 4: Gondogoro La Exit – The Grand Finale

Day 15: Ali Camp
Day 16: Gondogoro La Crossing (5,585m)
At sunrise, the summit reveals all four 8,000-meter peaks. You can truly say, “I was there.”

Day 17–24: Descent via Hushe, return to Skardu, and contingency days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is it called the Karakoram Grand Slam Trek?

Because it successfully completes all four 8,000-meter base camps—K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I, and Gasherbrum II—in a single expedition.

How difficult is the Gasherbrum Base Camp route?

The trek to Shagaring is more demanding than the standard K2 trail. It crosses remote, crevassed glacier terrain and requires highly experienced guides. This complexity is why very few operators offer it.

What makes this trek different from standard K2 treks?

  1. Four-Peak Achievement: Visit four 8000m base camps, not just one.
  2. Trango Towers Detour: A rare, up-close exploration of the world’s greatest granite spires.
  3. True Remoteness: By leaving the main Baltoro route, you experience genuine solitude in the Gasherbrum Sanctuary.
